On February 21st and February 22nd the kick-off was organised of the Nuffic-funded TMT project entitled “Supporting marginalised youth to become cocoa Agri-entrepreneurs: a new tailor made training at three Agro Education institutes.”
This project focuses on cooperation within the cocoa industry in Ghana. The training focussed on
- The sustainable cultivation of cocoa,
- combating child labour in the cocoa sector
- and enlarging the industry by motivating youth to choose for the sector.
Stakeholders from the Cocoa sector, agricultural institutes from the Ashanti region, and cocoa farmers were invited to discuss the challenges and how these can be tackled. During the second day a field visit was organised to the Bekwai district, where an exemplary Cocoa farm was visited and interactive discussion was organised with the local Farmer-based Cooperative.
