Last month, CINOP supported the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (previously known as COTVET) in delivering a Competence Based Training for teachers of the three farm institutes. This training contributed to the shift from teacher centered learning to learner centered learning and will ensure that graduates of the Institutes will be assessed on their competences needed by the Ghanaian agricultural industry. This training was obligatory by CTVET to enable accrediting newly developed competency based curricula under project 103458 and integrate these courses in the National Qualification Framework of Ghana.
Prior to the training, teachers themselves translated training to a competence based training program based on their own knowledge or experience. Currently, facilitators from CTVET explained what is needed when delivering CBT training and how this was integrated in the developed occupational Standards, unit Specification and learning materials and how to translate this to a competence based training program.
Furthermore, the teachers (who will become facilitators from now on) heard about the educational reform’s impact. Part of this impact was the transference of agricultural TVET institutes from the Ministery of Food and Agriculture to the Ministery of Education under the Commission’s supervision.
The teachers were very enthusiastic about this workshop. For many of them, it was the first time they received this information and understand the plans of the Government under their reform.
